Are you missing the mark with your small business social media posts, much like how the Stormtroopers missed Luke and Leia during their daring escape from the Death Star?
How could the Empire’s best soldiers miss so badly?
What if they were ordered to miss on purpose, allowing the rebels to escape on a ship fitted with a tracker?
That would explain their intentional failure.
Similarly, with business content, many small businesses post scattered content across social media, leading to equally scattered results from the algorithm.
You might gain plenty of likes and follows, but are they translating into sales?
I often see posts from businesses boasting, “I have 1.5 million followers, but no sales.”
The issue is that your content must appeal to the target market that actually buys from you, not just chase views, likes, or follows.
Modern algorithms are smarter—they amplify content based on user interactions.
If your posts are all over the place, you’ll get inconsistent results.
However, by understanding the bigger picture and adopting a strategic approach, you can create content that precisely targets your audience, hitting the bullseye.
So, where do you start if you’re unsure?
First, analyse competitors in your industry.
Observe what they’re doing and adapt their ideas—copy their approach, not their exact content.
Second, track your posts to identify which ones drive sales.
Tools like UTM tags are excellent for this.
Over time, you’ll gain insight into what your target market wants.
I hope this was helpful, and May the 4th be with you!
