Small touches that keep customers coming back

Hank owned a donut shop for 30 years. Everyone went there every morning. Coffee and donuts and great conversation. Everyone knew everyone.

Hank owned a donut shop for 30 years. Everyone went there every morning. Coffee and donuts and great conversation. Everyone knew everyone.

One day someone said “Hey…there’s a new guy opening up a fancy new donut shop 3 blocks from here in a few weeks”.

Hank doesn’t think much of it. Everyone’s been coming to his place for decades, all his stuff is paid for and the new guy is going to have to charge at least twice as much for his donuts and coffee.

Besides, a donut is a donut.

Opening day comes and goes… no change in business.

A few weeks go by, a few regulars don’t show up… expected…

A month goes by and Hanks place is kind of quiet, so he goes by the new guys place and he see’s all his customers there eating donuts that cost not twice as much, but three times as much and the coffee – it’s 4 times the price of Hanks coffee!!!!

Hank says “What gives????”

And one of his old customers says “Well, here, with every dozen donuts, he gives us a free donut”

(Always give your customers a free donut. They remember the free donut).
